[In her eyes]
What got you into this project? Ending freshmen year, I had a greater appreciation for time. The whole school year consisted of a constant game of catch-up and stream of events. So, when summer came around, I wanted to keep myself busy with self-motivated projects. Now I often joke around with the phrase "No days off" partly because of this project. I approached Brandon and asked if he wanted to do a project together, especially because he was in New York at the time and I was in Minneapolis. We talked about possible film, animation, and photography projects until he approached me with a series of mixes he wanted to do. Who's an underrated musical artist you're into? Imogen Heap is one of the most creative, experimental, and purposeful artists of all time. She's also an engineer and is constantly creating different things for her music. In 2011 she released high-tech musical gloves at the TEDGLobal conference which use 5DT x-io Technologies' sensors and Shure microphones. She gifted Ariana Grande a pair of the gloves, which Ariana used on her tour. Heap also harnesses her music for charity and travels the world to capture different perspectives and languages in her music. She's constantly innovating, trying new audio technologies like 3D audio effects. She does crazy things to capture unique sounds to put into her music, whether that be a frying pan or blending a slinky. Her voice itself is so unique and her lyrics are so personal. She's won two grammy awards but I still consider her incredibly underrated in America and among our generation. If you could only listen to 1 song for the rest of your life which one would it be For some reason I never get tired of Been That Way by Bryson Tiller. For you, what's been the hardest part about working on the project? I think that the hardest part for me was that I put too much pressure on myself and looking back, I didn't let myself go through the creative process like I should have. I think that was a combination with working with somebody else and letting my insecurities get in the way. For a long time this summer I felt creatively stagnant, and it was incredibly frustrating. It's also hard to work on a project with somebody you're in a relationship with. But I also ended up learning so much about myself and what I want to do in the future. If I could do it again I would. The whole experience was definitely a growth process, and it has inspired me to try some new things recently... so keep your eyes peeled!
